Automatic Battery Equalization
I
think BattEQ™
will change the way we think about deep cycle
batteries. For starters: we’ll like our batteries
more than before, because we’ll get more out of
them—a lot more. I ran my own before/after testing
of amp-hour delivery; that’s why I’m a
BattEQ
believer These test results are the most
significant of my long career, so I’ll make two
predictions:
(1) If you’re a deep cycle user who’s
serious about battery performance and longevity,
you’ll buy
BattEQ sooner or later.
(2)
Batteries that get 24/7 equalization “sooner” will
be better off than those that get it “later”.

Battery
longevity products from Pulsetech®
I
introduced the PowerPulse® sulfation buster
to the off-grid industry in 1997—another “first”
for Abraham Solar. If you rely on lead acid
batteries, you need a sulfate dissolver, and
PowerPulse is a top choice. I previously advised
one PowerPulse for every string in a pack of
batteries. With the advent of BattEQ, one pulser
is sufficient for an entire pack, because of the
balancing effect. Former ASE retail customers who
installed multiple pulsers may request a
partial rebate against their BattEQ purchase.

Can-Do
Switchgear™
Good electrical
controls require more than just time and
expertise. Top materials are also needed, so I’ve
developed my own line of Can-Do Switchgear.
With these building blocks, I can do better work
for my clients. I mainly reserve CDS for projects
where I also sell some of the power electronics.
Dealers: for now, all my enclosures go into
finished assemblies. With sufficient reseller
interest, empty enclosures may someday be
available to my dealers.

Small
inverters with “big inverter” quality
Don’t
confuse these professional products from Victron
Energy™ with the “disposable inverters” you see
elsewhere. I go for tools, not toys, and the Victron “Blue Boxes” make the grade. Pure sine
wave output, plus the legendary Victron reputation
for ruggedness and efficiency. For small but
complete systems, these can be bundled with one of
our Can-Do Switchgear assemblies. Finally:
inverters and chargers for the rest of us.

Big
inverters with “small inverter” simplicity
I started
working with Victron gear in 2002. I took things
slow so I could fully understand the line and make
sure of the quality before rolling it out
nationwide. Guess what? High end inverter/chargers
really don’t need over 100 programming menus. I
receive far fewer “confused customer” calls with
Victron gear- the design is so sophisticated that
the user doesn't need to be. Cost per VA is
competitive, and Victron products are made in the
free world. Coordinating Can-Do Switchgear
assemblies are available.

The
best amp-hour meter I’ve found!
The various
$200 amp-hour meters are imprecise, because they
ignore battery temperature and rate of discharge.
What good is a fuel gauge that you can’t trust? I
like some of the meters that are integrated with a
solar charge control, but for the best stand alone
amp-hour meter, I suggest the Victron BMV-501. Our
stainless steel mounting plate, pre-programming,
and triggers for audible alarm or generator
automation are available for systems customers who
want a trick setup.
